Are there any side effects?

"I was told about your product by a friend, first for my dog, then for me. I am a great fan of your product as I suffer from severe degenerative osteoarthritis. I have also put my mother on it, she lives in France. You should try advertising there too, good luck" Josy

This information is provided for your information, but please remember there is no Glucosamine, no Chondroitin and no MSM in Cortaflex.

If you go into health food shops and chemists, you will find lots of products containing Chondroitin Sulphate and Glucosamine Sulphate.

So what makes it so special? What makes it different is that it has been produced with smaller molecules, so that they are more likely to be absorbed into the areas where it is needed. It is a unique formulation of the smaller key isolates of Chondroitin and Glucosamine to make it easier for the smaller molecules to be able to pass through the tiny cell walls and into the joints.

Side effects of Glucosamine

This is what the current research and evidence tells us so far about any side effects with glucosamine:

"The most common side effects are increased intestinal gas and softened stools. However, animal research has raised the possibility that glucosamine may worsen insulin resistance, a major cause of diabetes. So far, studies in humans have not substantiated that risk. Nevertheless, people with diabetes should monitor their blood-sugar level particularly carefully when using that supplement. There have been no reports of allergic reactions to glucosamine. But since it's made from shellfish shells, people who are allergic to seafood should use it cautiously, watching for reactions, or avoid it entirely"

Interactions between glucosamine and other medications are unknown.

Drug interactions

Glucosamine may interact with certain diuretics, necessitating higher doses of the diuretic.

No significant side effects have been reported, although long-term studies on glucosamine's safety remain to be done.

In rare cases, heartburn, nausea or other minor gastrointestinal problems can develop.

We advise individuals to consult with their doctor before taking any supplements. It is important that you tell your prescriber or any other healthcare professional who may be treating you that you are taking a product which contains glucosamine. And you should definately discuss taking Cortaflex with your healthcare professional BEFORE taking it if you have any of these conditions: diabetes, heart problems or heart disease, liver disease, stomach or intestinal problems, an unusual or allergic reaction to glucosamine, pregnant or trying to get pregnant or breast feeding.

Side effects of Chondroitin

This is what the current research and evidence tells us so far about any side effects with taking Chondroitin:

"The most common side effects are increased intestinal gas and softened stools. Chondroitin can cause bleeding in people who have a bleeding disorder or take a blood thinning medicine (anticoagulant). If you take a blood thinner or a daily aspirin (of any strength), only take chondroitin under a doctor's supervision: Its molecular structure is similar to that of the blood-thinner heparin, and the interaction could potentially cause excessive bleeding."

Interactions between Chondroitin and other medications are unknown.

We advise individuals to consult with their doctor before taking any supplements. It is important that you tell your prescriber or any other healthcare professional who may be treating you that you are taking a product which contains Chondroitin. And you should definately discuss taking Cortaflex with your healthcare professional BEFORE taking it if you have any of these conditions: diabetes, heart problems or heart disease, liver disease, stomach or intestinal problems, an unusual or allergic reaction to Chondroitin, pregnant or trying to get pregnant or breast feeding.

Side effects of MSM (methylsulfonylmethane)

This is what the currently available research tells us about any side effects with taking MSM (methylsulfonylmethane):

"If you are on a blood thinner (anticoagulant) such as aspirin or warfarin (Coumadin), consult your doctor before taking MSM. It can occasionally have a blood thinning effect. Some people develop minor gastrointestinal discomfort such as cramping and increased stool frequency with MSM use. In rare cases a skin rash may appear. Stop using MSM if this or any other allergic reaction occurs"

Because no rigorously controlled studies of MSM usage of any length have been done in humans, long term effects are presently unknown. Interactions between MSM and other medications are unknown but these are currently available to us via the research.

Drug interactions

Aspirin
MSM may intensify the blood-thinning effect of aspirin. Use with caution. Consult your doctor before taking together.

Dalteparin Sodium
MSM may intensify the blood-thinning effect of dalteparin. Use with caution. Consult your doctor before taking together.

Enoxaparin Sodium Injection
MSM may intensify the blood-thinning effect of enoxaparin. Use with caution. Consult your doctor before taking together.

Warfarin
MSM may intensify the blood-thinning effect of warfarin. Use with caution. Consult your doctor before taking together.

We advise individuals to consult with their doctor before taking any supplements. It is important that you tell your prescriber or any other healthcare professional who may be treating you that you are taking a product which contains MSM. And you should definately discuss taking Cortaflex with your healthcare professional BEFORE taking it if you have any of these conditions: diabetes, heart problems or heart disease, liver disease, stomach or intestinal problems, an unusual or allergic reaction to MSM, pregnant or trying to get pregnant or breast feeding.

Side effects of Hyaluronic acid

There is very little currently available to tell us about any side effects from taking hyaluronic acid. However when it is used in adults by injection into the knee, 20 milligrams (mg) once a week (one week apart) for a total of five injections you are advised to tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to hyaluronate or to bird protein, feathers, or egg products.

Interactions between hyaluronic acid and other medications are unknown.
